If you’ve never heard of Paleochora and stumbled across this website, then truly the fates have favoured you! Paleochora is no great secret. The mystery might be why you never previously heard of this jewel of South West Crete – it’s been a favourite holiday destination for decades and visitors from those early years are now bringing grandchildren, even great grandchildren, to visit the town that has become such an important feature of their lives.
Originally a quiet, end of the road little fishing village, frequented by hippies and backpackers decades ago. The town has grown up and offers a vast selection of accommodation, from the simple to the luxury, both inside and around the outlying area. You won’t find any sprawling all-inclusive complexes here, the hotels and ‘rooms for rent’ are privately owned and run, this ensures you are welcomed and treated to the ‘filoxenia’ (hospitality) that Cretans are renowned for.
Built on a peninsula reaching out into the Libyan sea, Paleochora is graced with fabulous stretches of beaches to the east and west, most within walking distance, others by car or bicycle – all available for hire in the town. For many there’s no need to ever venture any further than the town beaches, all are a few minutes away from your accommodation:

There are huge resources on the internet with information about the walks, drives and various facilities including an archery range, sculpture garden, scuba diving centre, boat excursions, and museum, not forgetting the incredible array of cafés, bars and restaurants of a high standard, with excellent service and selection at reasonable price ranges. Take a look around online and garner any information and insights you seek, but far better to do as most do and have done – come and experience this wonderful town for yourselves….where holiday dreams come true.
